With all that is going on in the world these days, it’s especially important to make time for self-care (and not that doesn’t just mean taking a selfie in a face mask). To me, it means taking the time to fully unwind, and so below I’ve shared some of my favorite earth-friendly ways of doing just that. Let me know which ones you try out!
Step One: Dry Brushing
Skincare is one of our favorite ways to bring ourselves to a mindful place. When you say skincare, most people think of their facial routine, but your body needs some lovin’ too! The main benefits of dry brushing are that it exfoliates the skin, gets rid of any dead skin cells, and helps in unclogging your pores. As you are brushing, you are also giving yourself a massage which increases blood circulation. This vegan brush from ECO. is a great option.
Step Two: Eucalyptus Leaves
It’s recommended to shower after dry brushing to remove all the dead skin cells you just brushed off. Showering can sometimes feel like a chore, what helps us is to hang Eucalyptus over our shower head (we found ours at Whole Foods). There are several benefits to this: It can clear your sinuses (which is perfect in the winter, when it seems like we’re always sick); It has hydrating properties; and most importantly, it’s a relaxing natural scent that brings that spa-like feeling to your bathroom. You can find a few more benefits of Eucalyptus here.
Step Three: Face Mask
The best time for a face mask is right after showering when our pores are open and ready to soak everything in. Before we throw on a random face mask, we like to think about how our skin has been acting lately (dry, dull, oily, etc.) and we choose a mask that will benefit our current needs. There are SO many eco-friendly mask options. It’s not only important to check the packaging, but what’s inside the mask too. We know to be cautious with what food we put into our bodies, but what we put on our skin is just as important. We like this one from Glow Recipe for hydration, and this mask from The Body Shop for our problem skin days. They are 100% vegan and come in glass jars, and both leave a nice glow.
Step Four: Meditation
So, you can put a face mask on to aid any skin issues you may have, but it DOES NOT fix everything. For that reason, we have our final step. Meditating! You can get all of the facial’s and fresh mani’s that you want, but you still need to work on yourself internally. Sounds easy, you just lay there, right? Not true, many people do not know how. Meditating can be very difficult. We have so many distractions these days, there’s always going to be something on our minds. That’s why we recommend, as beginners ourselves, to use Headspace. It’s a program that guides your meditation sessions so that eventually you will find it much easier.
And those are a few of our eco-friendly self-care steps. We hope you consider these all-natural tips and they help you show yourselves the appreciation you all deserve. We’d love to hear some of your favorite self-love practices in the comments below!
